Course Description
The Certificate lll in Fitness is an entry level fitness course for the fitness industry. At satisfactory completion you will be a qualified Fitness Instructor.
Fitness instructors may plan and deliver group exercise sessions and develop gym-based programs for individuals where the level of personalised instruction and ongoing client monitoring is limited. They work in predictable environments under general supervision. When instructing groups or interacting with clients, they use discretion and judgment to solve routine issues within the parameters of clearly defined organisational policies and procedures.
This qualification provides a pathway to work as a fitness instructor in settings such as fitness facilities, gyms, and leisure and community centres.

Course Delivery
Course Duration: The course will be 12 months, including work placement hours. Dates are February 2024- February 2025.
This course is delivered over 40 weeks in a classroom setting with the following structure:
- 4 terms @ 11 weeks/term (delivered during NSW School dates)
- Classes every Thursday- 6pm-9pm (face-to-face or through Zoom online)
- 3 x Saturday workshops per term (face-to-face)
- Work placement is required and is organised in partnership with WRCC (WESTERN RIVERINA COMMUNITY COLLEGE), the student and the gym facility.
- Attendance is compulsory
Students are expected to attend class and workshops as well as complete learning and assessment activities outside of class time (Self-Paced Learning).
Course Location
Classes will be held at WRCC- Griffith Campus, 23 Hickey Crescent, Griffith NSW 2680.

Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for the SIS30321 Certificate in Fitness. However, students must be 16 years of age or above and are required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy assessment and an interview prior to enrolment.
Course Requirements
Students must have a genuine interest in fitness and health. They enjoy working with others and will aspire to serve, inspire, and motivate people. Careers in this sector are based on customer service and maintenance of facilities. Some gym facilities may require a current police check and working with children check.
Basic digital skills such as the use of Microsoft Word, basic online research and search skills, navigating files and cybersafety, are a requirement for the course. (See Support Services)
Assessments
Assessments for the qualification will be;
- A combination of theory and practical assessment tasks
- Students are expected to complete the assessments in a workbook
- Students are expected to complete practical assessments in a gym facility for each unit.
Student Fee
This course is subsidised by the NSW Government for eligible students as per the Student Handbook WRCC_Student_Handbook_ July 2022.docx
Student contributions range from $0 to $1,750 and can be calculated and quoted prior to interview and course commencement.
For non-eligible participants, full Course Costs apply. The WRCC Full Fee is $4,025 (GST exempt).
Payment plans are available for all students.
Full fee payment is required at satisfactory completion of the course to be issued with a certificate.
Support Services
- A Student Support Officer (SSO) is available to assist with study skills, schedules and digital skills for learning
- Each session is recorded and uploaded to Microsoft Teams for students to access, use as a learning resource and for revision purposes.
- Students will begin the course with an IT Skills Workshop for Study (included in course fees).
