Introduction

Course Description
Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in being issued with an interim certificate to gain your competency card required to work in the industry.
This training  will cover the skills needed for all hospitality workers involved in the sale and service of gambling activities in a licensed premise such as gaming machines, Keno, TAB, table games and lotteries.
This course is suitable for those wanting to gain employment in job roles such as gaming attendant, table game attendant, croupier, and multi-skilled food and beverage attendant.

This course is designed to:

  • develop skills to confidently and proactively respond to patrons showing warning signs of problematic gambling behaviour and provide the appropriate assistance.
  • clarify those roles, responsibilities, and expectation, as well as the laws relating to responsible gambling practices, which are designed to minimise gambling harm, in order to give the individual a clear idea of what is expected of the staff in the workplace.

Course Delivery

Part 1 – During the Face-to-Face training
Students need to attend 7 hours of face-to-face delivery in the classroom, not including breaks. (Hours are regulated by Liquor & Gaming NSW).

There will be a 10-15 minute morning tea break, a 30 minute meal break, and a 10 minute afternoon break, and all students are required to return on time from these breaks. Use of microwave and fridge available at the venue for Griffith courses. Tea and coffee only supplied.

Throughout the training students will complete the following:
  •  Office of Responsible Gambling Participant Workbook
  •  WRCC theory and practical assessment tasks

After successful completion of the WRCC theory and practical assessments, students are issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

Part 2 – Online Assessment
After the face-to-face training and successful completion of the Office of Responsible Gambling Participant Workbook, students will receive a link via email or SMS with instructions from OneGov to complete the online assessment.

 The assessment comprises of:
  • 25 questions a combination of mostly multiple choice and multiple answer questions, True and False and scenarios-based questions
  • Students will have their participant workbook to refer to during the assessment
  • Students will have unlimited attempts to pass
Students will need access to a computer, laptop or mobile and internet to complete the online assessment in order to receive their interim certificate. It is recommended that students complete the online assessment as soon as possible.

Once you satisfactorily complete the online assessment Office of Liquor and Gaming will issue the interim certificate.

The RCG interim certificate allows participants to work for 90 days while they process and receive their NSW photo competency card. Students need to apply through Service NSW for a NSW competency card and should receive their card within 4 weeks via post. Digital version of competency card also available through the Service NSW App.

Licensing and Regulations

If you hold a Current NSW RSA/RCG Competency Card issued from August 2011, that is about to expire, this course is not suitable.

You need to complete an on-line refresher course and we advise you to contact Liquor and Gaming NSW on http://www.liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au for further instruction or use the link below for more information:
https://www.liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au/working-in-the-industry/training-to-work-in-the-industry/competency-cards/nsw-competency-card-renewals.

If you have a current RSA/RCG Competency Card but would prefer to do a full RSA/RCG course, instead of a refresher, WRCC can facilitate this if a student declaration is completed.

Please be aware the NSW Competency card is valid in NSW only and other states may require further training or other requirements to be met to practice RCG in their state. It is a students responsibility to find out this information.
