Provide Advanced First Aid HLTAID006

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response, including management of the incident and other first aiders, life support, and how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

This course is suitable for workers who may be required to provide, coordinate and manage a first aid response across a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

Introduction

Course Delivery
This course is delivered with mixed mode delivery including multiple choice questions, scenarios and simulated activities. A pre-course workbook is to be completed prior to commencing the course and there is a one-day (7 hour) face to face session.

All other resources will be provided on the day. After successful completion of the course examination, students are issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment within 7 days.

Licencing and Regulations
First Aid accreditation lasts for a period of three years and re-accreditation is required before your credentials date of expiry. However, specific licensing /regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

Entry Requirements
A compulsory workbook must be completed before attending the face to face component of training.

The workbook can be collected during business hours from our:
Leeton office Monday – Friday 8.30am - 4.00pm
Griffith office Monday – Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm

If you are unable to attend our office during these hours, please notify the office and one can be mailed to you. Postage will be charged, and you will need to ensure that there is sufficient time for you to receive the workbook and complete it prior to course commencement.

As of 1st January 2015, it’s a compulsory requirement that ALL students must provide a Unique Student Identifier number (USI) prior to commencement of any accredited course . Please click on the link www.usi.gov.au to create or retrieve your USI.

Course Requirements
In order for participants to receive an accredited Advanced First Aid Certificate, they must be able to demonstrate and be assessed performing CPR for at least 2 minutes of all of the following:

  • uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
  • uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
  • bag-valve-mask ventilation and compression during a two-rescuer procedure on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Practical Experience and Industry Networking
Training is offered in a classroom with face to face delivery from an experienced trainer.
